World of Coffees: An Introduction to Cupping
To educate the public about specialty coffee, One World Roasters will be hosting its first World of Coffees Cupping event, featuring some of the top coffees produced throughout tropical growing regions of the world.
Led by Roaster Eric Ciolino, the unique tasting event will feature four specialty coffees offered at One World's Roastery and (soon-to-open) Cafe, including: Two African coffees from Ethiopia and Kenya, a Central American coffee from Costa Rica and an Indonesian coffee from Sumatra. Echoing what has been a phenomenal period of growth for the specialty coffee industry over the last decade, these coffees exemplify qualities that differentiate third-wave specialty coffees from conventional commercial-grade coffees.
For the event, the coffees will be cupped using various tasting methods — Triangulation (to determine differences), Hedonic (to explore flavor preferences) and Descriptive (to analyze taste characteristics) — and participants will be carefully guided through each one of these methods as they learn the art of cupping coffees.
“We will explore these coffees by their quality of flavor and their uniqueness of origin. Each attendee will also receive a sample of roasted beans and an opportunity to taste the very best coffees from our roastery,” Ciolino said of the World of Coffees event.
Cupping will take place on Sunday Sept. 30, at the One World Roasters location in East Haven, CT. Here are some more details: Phone (203) 376-1589, Time 2 – 4 p.m., Admission is free but space is limited, RSVP online at www.oneworldroasters.com.
