Art at Hand, Program Highlights of 2018
ART at Hand, Program Highlights of 2018
It’s been another busy season in the Arts at Daniel Hand! The high school recently hosted the Madison Public Schools District Art Show featuring selected works by students in grades K-12. Guests were impressed by numerous artworks as well as several artist demonstrations, ongoing throughout the department. It was standing room only in the clay lab where high school students showcased their skills on the potter’s wheel as an appreciative crowd watched.
Support the Clay Club and help feed those in need! Attend Empty Bowls to benefit The Community Dining Room at the Senior Center in Madison from 1:00 -3:00 on Sunday, May 19th.
The public is also invited to the upcoming, Daniel Hand High School Art Show reception on June 12th, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Several hundred works of art, including drawings, paintings, prints, photography, ceramics and more will be on display in the building. The event coincides with a DHHS band concert.
Later in June, we are pleased to present the first annual Magnolia Prize, awarded to a high school senior, pursuing a post-secondary program in the Visual Arts and whose artistic talents, work ethic and contributions to the creative climate have been an inspiration to his/her peers. The $1,000.00 prize, funded by The Madison Foundation’s Artist Education Fund, is to be applied towards the cost of artist materials in the upcoming school year. Art shows would not be possible without the energy, creativity and passion of talented students, teachers and friends of the Art department; many thanks to all who have participated. The Art Department would like to highlight the artistic achievements of the following high school students:
