Valley Shore YMCA receives grant to support new “Farm To Table” Camp
The Valley Shore YMCA in Westbrook, CT is honored to receive a grant of $2,225 from The Rockfall Foundation to support a new “Farm To Table” Specialty Camp for school-aged children this summer. The Rockfall Foundation, located in Middletown, Connecticut and founded in 1935 by philanthropist Clarence S. Wadsworth, is a charitable foundation committed to promoting environmental education, resource conservation and sustainable development in the Lower Connecticut River Valley and region.
Stated Chris Pallatto, the Y’s Executive Director, “We are honored that the Rockfall Foundation chose us as one of their grant recipients. Our Farm To Table camp will be such an exciting addition to our summer camp programming; skills such as gardening and sustainability are more important now than ever before to pass on to our next generation. Our camp will actively engage the students with hands-on, service-driven learning in both our Community Garden and our campus kitchen, while still enjoying all the features our YMCA Camp Shore has to offer.”
The Valley Shore Y’s “Farm to Table” Camp is an innovative new program that will partner with the YMCA’s own Community Garden and teach children the important life skills of gardening, harvesting and cooking produce for themselves and others, and environmental sustainability. The Valley Shore YMCA Summer Camp programs serve over 300 children annually on the Connecticut shoreline.
