08/08/2016 12:00 AMKillingworth resident Ellen Leslie (left) and Branford resident Carol Runlett (center) present a check to National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, representative Isabelle Miner (right) after raising $533 for the Society by selling paper footprints at the Branford Hills Health Care Center. Leslie runs the social services department of Branford Hills Health Care Center, and is captain of the Branford Hills Walk MS fundraising team, of which Runlett is a member. Runlett was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a potentially debilitating disease, in 1997 but her doctors say she was probably battling symptoms for at least 10 years before the official diagnosis was made. She decided to sell the paper footprints at the center to help boost fundraising for the Walk MS team. The women also organized fundraisers throughout the year, including food sales and dress-down days. Both women participated in the Connecticut Chapter’s Walk MS as virtual walkers for Team Branford Hills. To learn more about Walk MS, fundraising and other activities, visit ctfightsMS.org.
