Patrick is a newly minted Eagle Scout of Madison Boy Scout Troop 491. One of the many requirements to be an Eagle Scout is that each candidate plans and completes a significant community project. Patrick chose to replace a dilapidated fence at the Lutheran Church in Madison. A new fence brought more than aesthetics; the 50 foot fence serves as a safety barrier between the children’s play area and the parking lot and road. Patrick also did landscaping, painted picnic tables and dramatically improved the space.
Patrick’s project required the development of a project plan, budget and formal approval. Patrick raised funds and applied for a grant from The Madison Foundation to offset the cost of the lumber at the suggestion of his Eagle Scout advisor. Patrick was very appreciative of the support.
When asked what he learned from the project, Patrick was quick to respond that he learned a lot about organization and he shared sometimes it is hard to get helpers, but when you have help, things are much – much easier! Congratulations to Patrick, on his Eagle Scout project and surely he will apply his project management skills at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont in the fall.
