11/19/2014 11:00 PMAfter 30 years of practicing general dentistry, at a time when many of his colleagues are contemplating retirement, Dr. Ernest D. Reamer is more excited than ever to head to the office each morning. Since his daughter, Dr. Carolyn Reamer Blicharz joined the office in 2008, the Centerbrook-based practice has continued to grow with state-of-the-art technology, expanded services and a staff that knows how to cater to patients of all ages, including the treatment of children. Recently, Dr. Reamer was recognized as one of the top dentists in the state, an honor that he has received for four consecutive years. “I have the desire to produce dentistry at the highest level and not settle for the average,” Dr. Reamer stated. “It's challenging and the most gratifying thing I do. Now with Carolyn on board, we are able to service more people with the same quality of care.”
Carolyn, or Dr. “B” as her patients like to call her, is thrilled to be serving her home town community, having grown up in Essex and now raising her own family in Ivoryton. She especially enjoys treating children and supports the American Dental Association's and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's recommended “age one″ for first dental visit, which helps develop a positive relationship between patient and dentist and encourages early positive dental health behaviors. Dr. 'B' also visits area schools to help educate young students about the benefits of good dental health, continuing a tradition that was started by her mother and former Essex Elementary School teacher, Linda Reamer.
Both father and daughter tout impressive educational and professional achievements - he having served as a United States Navy Dentist after earning his undergraduate degree from Lafayette College and graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, and she being a Bates College and University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine alumna. Both resumes include membership in the American Dental Association, Connecticut State Dental Association, Shoreline Dental Society and River Valley Study Club (a chapter of the Seattle Study Club) as well as active roles in the Essex Rotary Club.
To signal this new chapter of growth, Dr. Reamer and Dr. Blicharz recently renamed their family practice “Essex Dental Group”, giving a fresh look to new signage at their 62 Main Street location and new website at www.essexdentalgroup.com. They also credit an experienced and expanding staff of eight with creating a warm office environment where preventive dental care and its relationship to overall health are stressed. “The best part of dentistry,” Dr. Reamer added, “has always been the person-to-person interaction.”
