Evergreen Woods of North Branford’s 12th Annual Scholarship Silver Pen Essay Competition is now open to all high school seniors who live or attend school within 25 miles of the community. A dedicated panel of community members will evaluate the 1,000-word essay and then award cash prizes totaling up to $3,750 to help two local high school seniors with their post-graduate plans.

North Branford is mourning the loss of Michael Doody, a former Mayor and Deputy Chief of Police, retired; following his passing on Aug. 11. The Northford native provided many years of elective and volunteer service to the town. In his seven elective terms serving with the Town Council, Doody served three terms as Mayor. He served with North Branford Police Department from 1976 until his retirement in 2010.
