Old Saybrook’s Henderson Inducted into Shoreline Cross Country Hall of Fame

Former Old Saybrook High School runner and Stony Brook University standout Shane Henderson was inducted into the Shoreline Cross Country Conference Hall of Fame on Nov. 17 at Clinton Country Club. Henderson was a Class of 2019 graduate at Old Saybrook, where he racked up a variety of accolades. Henderson was named to the All-Shoreline Conference First Team for cross country in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, and he was a conference champion in 2018. Additionally, he placed in the Top 20 in the Connecticut State Open Championship in 2018, and he made the All-New England team that year. Henderson was a member of the All-State team in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Henderson was also a star on the basketball court in the winter, where he was All-Shoreline in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and All-State in 2017 and 2018. Henderson is also the all-time scoring leader at Old Saybrook with 1602 points.

During the spring season, Henderson competed in outdoor track. He was All-Shoreline in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and All-State in those same years. He was also the Connecticut State Open champion in the steeplechase in 2017, the State Open runner-up champion in the steeplechase in 2018, All-New England in track in 2018 in the 1600 meters, and the 1600 meter school record holder.

Shane’s collegiate career at Stony Brook includes school records in the 5k and 3k, running the 5k race in 13:51 and the 3k in 7:59. He also ran a 4:02 full mile and was an NCAA Division 1 first-round qualifier in the 5000 meter race. Additionally, Henderson was a Coastal Athletic Conference (CAA) conference champion and a six-time All-Conference runner in cross country and track.
