Guilford Youth Football secured a Shoreline Youth Football Conference (SYFC) Championship on Nov. 16 at Vanacore Field in North Haven, when the No. 1 ranked sixth grade team capped off an undefeated season with a thrilling 26-0 victory over No. 2 Southington. Congratulations to the team for an incredible season, whose final record was 11-0.

The sixth grade boys dominated the regular season by winning all eight games. Entering the postseason, they turned it up a notch by posting three-straight shutout victories on their way to claiming the championship crown. They outscored their three playoff opponents by a margin of 82-0. In the first round of the playoffs, they defeated Shelton 30-0, then followed it up with a 26-0 performance against Cheshire in the semifinals before handling Southington in the championship game. On the season, the Grizzlies scored 288 points while only allowing 19 points across eleven games, including eight shutouts.

This is the second championship title in three seasons for this group. They have completed three consecutive undefeated regular seasons and played in the championship game three consecutive years. Their combined three-year record is 32-1, which is a reflection of great work by the players and coaches.

The group is led by Head Coach Ken Alberti, along with assistant coaches Rich Bello, Chris Borelli, Rich Cordeiro, Chris Frey, and Mike Peck.

The sixth grade team is made up of the following players: Harris Alberti, Jack Bello, Jacq Bolduc, Max Borelli, Brandyn Capone, Carmelo Cipollini, Colin Cordeiro, Joseph Dagostino, Robbie Deko, Hunter DePasquale, Levi Descollines, Domenic DiFonzo, Liam Dunn, Kyle Frey, Kellen Johnston, Tanner Mainetti, Matthew Mariano, Hunter Peck, Zach Piagentini, Beau Rebhun, Roman Rich, Isaac Robinson, Dane Smith, Ben Srouji, Camden Trotta, Gunner Tsoukanelis, and Carter Witkowsky.

The future is bright for these young Grizzlies, and the Guilford Youth Football and Cheerleading (GYFC) program is excited to see what’s to come.
