Field Hockey Falls in State Tournament, Several Soccer Players Named All-Conference


Field Hockey

The Westbrook-Lyme/Old Lyme field hockey team traveled to Farmington on Oct. 16 and took a 3-2 loss. Alyssa Leandri and Brooke Ouellette each scored a goal, and assists came from Mirabel Rinker, Eimy Novillo, and Gabriella Ziegler. Grace Vincent had two saves in goal.

The team then hosted Killingly on Oct. 18 and won 4-0. Goals were scored by Dani Marin, Rinker, Sybil Neary, and Ouellette. Anne Marie Hinckley (two), Ouellette (two), Neary, Ziegler, and Leandri recorded assists. Vincent had four saves.

The next day, the Wild Knights traveled to Fitch and earned a 1-0 victory. Ouellette scored the lone goal, and Vincent had three saves.

The team wrapped up the regular season at Suffield on Oct. 24 and won 2-0. Neary and Rinker each scored a goal, and Ouellette had an assist. Vincent recorded three saves.

In the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament on Oct, 25, the Wild Knights took a tough 1-0 loss vs. Haddam-Killingworth. Vincent recorded four saves in goal.

In the first round of the Class S State Tournament on Nov. 4, the No. 7 seed Wild Knights hosted No. 10 Lauralton Hall and fell 2-1 in overtime to close out a very strong season.

Due to their efforts this fall, several girls were named to the All-Shoreline Conference First Team, including Leandri, Ouellette, Novillo, and Vincent. Hinckley and Ziegler earned spots on the Second Team. Vincent was also named a Co-Goalie of the Year, while Ouellette was named a Co-Player of the Year. Head Coach Janet Dickey was named a Co-Coach of the Year for the conference.

Boys’ Soccer

Due to their efforts on the field this fall, Westbrook’s Wilson Rivera was named to the All-Conference Second Team, and Luis Novillo was an Honorable Mention.

Girls’ Soccer

The All-Shoreline Conference girls’ soccer teams were recently announced. Adriana Spash was named to the Second Team, and Lillian Freeman was an Honorable Mention. Head Coach Kendra Richards was named a Co-Coach of the Year.
