Volleyball Splits the Week, Cross Country Takes Third in Big Meet


Volleyball

The Branford volleyball team traveled to Mercy on Oct. 7 and took a 3-1 loss. Lea Sekerovic had nine kills, and Sailor Plourde had six. Riley O’Brien had 13 digs, and Julianne Henkel had 10. Henkel also had 23 assists.

The team then traveled to Lyman Hall on Oct. 10 and won 3-0. Sekerovic had 16 kills, and O’Brien had 16 digs. Sophie Santos had 15 digs, Plourde had 13, Henkel had 12, and Julia Burton had 11. Henkel recorded 31 assists.

Cross Country

The Branford boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in a meet at Notre Dame-West Haven/Sacred Heart Academy with Cheshire and Jonathan Law on Oct. 8. The boys placed third with 87 total points. David Regan placed seventh (17:51), and Sawyer Gaudreau placed 19th (19:33). Paul Lesyk (19:58) placed 29th, and Cormac Fichtenholtz (20:32) took 33rd. Cooper Ranton placed 34th with a time of 20:52.

For the girls, Charlotte Kenney placed third (20:08), and Caitlyn  Lentner placed 12th (21:36).
