Girls’ Cross Country Wins Oronoque Division, Girls’ Soccer Wins a Trio

Girls’ Soccer

The North Haven girls’ soccer team hosted Lyman Hall on Oct. 7 and won 6-1. The first goal was scored by Andrea August in the 14th minute, assisted by Ava Tarasuk. North Haven’s second goal was scored by Hannah Bernardo in the 22nd minute, assisted by Tarasuk, and the third goal was scored by Olivia Ranciato in the 35th minute, assisted by Maya Thompson.

In the second half, Eva Hall scored in the 47th minute, assisted by Thompson. Thompson then scored a goal of her own in the 62nd minute, assisted by Faith Nichols. Nichols added an unassisted goal in the 71st minute. Alivia Garnett had two saves in goal, and Addie Whitcomb had two. The Nighthawks had 17 shots on goal.

The team then traveled to Wilbur Cross on Oct. 9 and won 9-0. The first goal was scored by Gia Giamo, assisted by Ranciato in the fourth minute. The second goal was scored by Thompson, assisted by Ranciato in the eighth minute. The Nighthawks next goal was scored by Bernando, assisted by Carly Ryan in the 13th minute. Ranciato added a score in the 22nd minute, assisted by Tarasuk, and Olivia Palmeri scored the fifth goal, assisted by Giamo.

In the second half, Olivia McBride added an unassisted score in the 44th minute. Tarasuk, assisted by McBride, scored in the 48th minute. Ryan knocked in another score in the 51st minute, assisted by Tarasuk, and Elizabeth Garcia scored unassisted in the 65th minute. North Haven had 17 shots on goal, and Whitcomb had one save in net.

Two days later, the Nighthawks ended the week hosting West Haven, and they won 3-0. The first goal was scored by Nichols unassisted in the 49th minute. The second goal was scored by Thompson, assisted by Tarasuk, in the 52nd minute. The Nighthawks third goal was scored by Thompson unassisted in the 67th minute. Garnett and Whitcomb combined for no saves, while North Haven had 17 shots on goal.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team traveled to Daniel Hand on Oct. 7. In the 200 medley relay (MR), the team of Giada Garofalo, Angelina Valentino, Kelsey Perkins, and Amelia Bautz took second place with a time of 2:19.64. Kaili Wan, Else Roosevelt, Cosma Gregg, and Tessa Boisseau placed fifth (2:34.24). Payton Erodici, Reese Tesla, Abigail Ray, and Brigette Perez-Carreto (3:06.01) placed sixth. In the 200 meter freestyle, Andrea Laborde placed third (2:35.24), Avery Cullen placed fourth (2:40.39), and Abigail Lorusso took fifth (2:40.58).

In the 200 individual medley (IM), Perkins took second place (2:46.93), Gregg placed fourth (2:56.55), and Wan placed sixth (3:27.71). Bautz placed second in the 50 freestyle (30.27), Valentino placed fourth (32.19), and Boisseau took sixth (34.84). Perkins won the 100 butterfly (1:13.70). In the 100 freestyle, Garofalo placed third (1:04.59), Bautz took fifth (1:07.69), and Ray took sixth (1:16.88). In the 500 freestyle, Laborde placed fourth (7:06,69), Cullen placed fifth (7:23.00), and Scarlett Russek placed sixth (7:24.01).

In the 200 relay, Garofalo, Bautz, Perkins, and Laborde placed third (2:03.96). Gregg, Valentino, Boisseau, and Cullen placed fourth (2:16.42). Tesla, Mars McCann, Perez-Carreto, and Falak Awais took sixth (3:04.19). Garofalo won the 100 backstroke (1:10.84). Lorusso placed second in that event (1:30.07), and Wan took third (1:32.22). Gregg (1:28.03) placed first in the 100 breaststroke. Roosevelt took second (1:34.89), and Valentino placed third (1:36.77). In the 400 relay, Russek, Ray, Boisseau, and Lorusso placed first (5:05.42).

Volleyball

The North Haven volleyball team hosted East Haven on Oct. 7 and won 3-1. Alyssa DiGiovanna had 11 kills. Bianca Watts had eight blocks, DiGiovanna had 11 digs, and Danielle Dixon had 19 assists.

Two days later, the team traveled to Guilford and fell 3-0. Lucia Cavaliere had seven digs in the match, and DiGiovanna had five. Guilianna Mesner had six assists, and Danielle Dixon had four.

On Oct. 10, the Nighthawks hit the road to Amity and took a 3-0 loss. DiGiovanna and Alyssa Ferriouolo had 10 digs each, and Dixon had eight assists.

Boys’ Soccer

North Haven boys’ soccer hosted East Haven on Oct. 7 and won 3-0. Goals were scored by Aiden Oliveira, Jack Notaro, and Jett Rosekopf. Assists were credited to Oliveira, Notaro, and Luciano Calderón.

The team then hosted Jonathan Law on Oct. 9 and won 4-0. Oliveira and Calderón scored two goals each. Notaro had two assists, and Kevin Parker and Charlie Daniele each had one.

The Nighthawks ended the week on Oct. 12, traveling to Wilbur Cross and taking a 3-0 loss.

Girls’ Cross Country

On Oct. 2 at the Guilford Fairgrounds, North Haven girls’ cross country defeated Wilbur Cross by just one point, 27 to 28, to become the 2024 Oronoque Division champions. Freshman Kendall Montabana placed third overall in the division, followed by Amalia Morizio in fifth, Emma Pincince in sixth, Daniella Rapuano in ninth, and Grace DeNardis in 11th place. Lily Mineur, Sophia Vollono, and Brenna Wilson also competed in the race.
