Cross Country Competes in Multi-Team Meet, Football Takes a Loss

Boys’ Cross Country

The Guilford boys’ cross country team competed at the East River Preserve on Oct. 9 and swept the quad meet against Shelton, Fairfield Prep, and Career. The final scores were Guilford 21, Shelton 42, and Fairfield Prep 66.

Guilford was led by freshman phenom Jackson Gould, who won the race in 16:42, followed by sophomore Lewis Thoreen in 16:46, and junior Aaron Kowalonek in 16:49, in second and third place, respectively. Next for Guilford was sophomore Luca Esposito-Langlais, who took sixth overall in 17:28, followed by senior captain Enzo Taverna, competing in his first race of the season in 17:40. His time was good enough for ninth overall, with sophomore teammate David Zhang right behind him in 10th in 17:41.

Girls’ Cross Country

The Guilford girls’ cross country team competed at East River Preserve on Oct. 9 against Career Magnet, Lauralton Hall, and Shelton.

The team was led by sophomore Olivia Jackson, who placed first with a time of 18:28, followed by junior Ciara Davenport in second with a time of 19:36. Freshman Kaylin Diglio finished in third place with a time of 20:18, with sophomore Sienna Brackney right behind her in fourth with a time of 20:21. Rounding out the top five was senior Agnes Batters in sixth place with a time of 20:55.

Football

Guilford football hosted Killingly on Oct. 10 and took a 48-13 loss. Caden Hillier rushed for 175 yards and scored two touchdowns, and Aidan Connelly had 17 total tackles. Lucas Deshefy and Rocco Barbera had 11 tackles each.
