Boys’ Cross Country, Girls’ Cross Country Shine at Divisional Meet

Girls’ Cross Country

The Guilford girls’ cross country team competed in the SCC Divisional Championship at the Guilford Fairgrounds on Oct. 2. The girls won the Hammonasset Division, with sophomore Olivia Jackson placing second with a time of 19:31, followed by junior Ciara Davenport placing fourth with a time of 20:19. Freshman Kaylin Diglio finished in sixth with a time of 21:33, directly followed by sophomore Sienna Brackney in seventh place with a time of 21:34. Rounding out the top five was senior Agnes Batters in eighth place with a time of 21:41.

Boys’ Cross Country

The Guilford boys’ cross country team competed at the SCC Divisional Championships on Oct. 2 at the Guilford Fairgrounds and secured its 10th straight division title and 28th out of 30 years in the conference. Guilford was first place with 24 points, followed by Hand with 31, then Law with 97, Foran with 112, and Hillhouse with 127 points.

The team was led by freshman Jackson Gould, who placed second in 16:47. Next up was sophomore Lewis Thoreen in third place in 16:52. Sophomores Jordan Espinosa, Luca Esposito-Langlais, and David Zhang rounded out the top five in 17:11, 17:26, and 17:43, respectively.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

On Oct. 4, Guilford girls’ swimming and diving defeated Daniel Hand High School in exhibition with a score of 102 to 79. Senior Isabel Torello took first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:03.09), and junior Aislin Cohen also won the 50 freestyle (25.47). Senior Jordyn Gould won the 1M diving with a score of 256.27. Freshman Ryan Cohen took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.93, and her sister Aislin Cohen won the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.31.

Torello swam the 500 freestyle in 5:26.60, taking home the win, while sophomore Muiriel Rader, senior Kate Young, Aislin Cohen, and Torello took first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.75). Ryan Cohen won the 100 backstroke (1:03.46). Junior Liana Clune posted the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.93) in exhibition.

On Oct. 7, the team beat Lyman Hall High School in exhibition with a score of 93.5 to 71.5. Junior Clara Matos da Cruz, Clune, Young, and Torello won the 200 medley relay (2:04.60), and Aislin Cohen took first in the 200 freestyle (2:02.50). Ryan Cohen won the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.13, and Gould took first in the 1M diving with a score of 264.85. Young won the 100 butterfly (1:09.79), and Ryan Cohen took first in the 100 freestyle (1:00.70).

Torello won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:28.63. Matos da Cruz, Rader, Ryan Cohen, and sophomore Abigail Fernandez placed first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.60). After this event, the meet went into exhibition, and Aislin Cohen posted the fastest time in the 100 backstroke (1:04.06), and Clune had the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.31). Aislin Cohen, Fernandez, sophomore Sophia Chicarilli, and Young had the fastest time in the 400 freestyle relay (4:11.45).
