Get To Know Your Referee
As part of the ongoing effort to promote a positive and supportive environment within the North Haven Soccer Club (NHSC), it has launched a new series called “Get to Know Your Referee.” This initiative aligns with the club’s zero tolerance stance on referee abuse and aims to highlight the fact that the referees are kids from within the community. The goal of the series is to help the community get to know the referees a bit, and celebrate their contributions and their hard work.
This week’s referee spotlight was on Sam Giering, a 16-year old referee from North Haven High School. He is a junior, and he enjoys being a facilitator for Project Adventure, taking risks climbing to new heights while leading and supporting the other students. Giering’s favorite soccer team is Real Madrid, and his favorite player is Cristiano Ronaldo. Giering’s other sports/hobbies include skiing, tennis, and cliff jumping. HIs favorite foods are pizza, wings, and caesar salad, and his favorite movie is “Interstellar.”
Giering’s favorite thing about being a referee is being active while working, and a fun fact about him is that he loves taking risks while engaging in activities like skiing, mountain biking, and cliff jumping. He became a referee to be able to work at a young age, and to have an active job engaging in a sport he enjoys.
