Girls’ Swimming Splits the Week, Volleyball Takes Three Losses
Girls’ Swimming and Diving
On Sept. 23, the North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team traveled to Ledyard/St. Bernard and won 87-82. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Giada Garofalo, Angelina Valentino, Kelsey Perkins, and Amelia Bautz placed second with a time of 2:18.81. The third place team, with a time of 2:34.91, consisted of Kaili Wan, Cosma Gregg, Abigail Lorusso, and Tessa Boisseau. The fourth place team (2:58.46) was comprised of Else Roosevelt, Reese Tesla, Abigail Ray, and Payton Erodici.
In the 200 meter freestyle, Andrea Laborde placed second (2:40.47), and Avery Cullen took third (2:44.70). Scarlett Russek placed fourth in that event (2:46.04). In the 200 individual medley (IM), Perkins placed second (2:45.61), while Gregg finished in third place (2:54.07). The 50 freestyle had several North Haven finishers, including Bautz in third place (31.23), Valentino in fourth (33.16), and Boisseau in fifth (34.04).
Perkins placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:16.26), and Bautz placed third (1:28.21). In the 100 freestyle, Garofalo took second place (1:02.81), Lorusso finished third (1:11.47), and Boisseau took fourth (1:17.75). The 500 freestyle included Laborde in second (7:11.35), and Cullen in third (7:14.69).
In the 200 freestyle relay, Boisseau, Valentino, Gregg, and Laborde finished in second place (2:15.92). In third place (2:18.43) was the team of Roosevelt, Russek, Ray, and Cullen. Finishing in fifth place with a time of 2:49.16 was Tesla, Erodici, Mars McCann, and Brigette Perez-Carreto.
Garofalo won the 100 backstroke (1:12.98), and Lorusso came in third (1:27.08). Wan took fourth place in that event (1:30.72). In the 100 breaststroke, Gregg placed second (1:31.01), Valentino took third (1:35.01), and Russek finished in fourth (1:42.44). The 400 freestyle relay team of Perkins, Bautz, Laborde, and Garofalo won the event with a time of 4:29.48. In third place (4:59.87) was Cullen, Ray, Lorusso, and Russek.
On Sept. 26, the team traveled to Amity and fell 95-79. In the 200 medley relay, Gregg, Valentino, Cullen, and Boisseau claimed fourth place with a time of 2:29.34. Garofalo came in third in the 200 meter freestyle (2:26.91), while Bautz took fifth (2:32.46), and Lorusso took sixth (2:34.70). Perkins placed third in the 200 individual medley (IM) with a time of 2:41.92, while teammate Wan took fourth (3:18.90).
Laborde recorded a time of 32.01 in the 50 freestyle for fourth place, and Cullen took fifth (32.68). Russek swam to a sixth place finish in that event (33.53). Riley Mattox placed first in the one meter diving event (182.40), and Roosevelt placed fifth (130.80). Garofalo (1:24.64) placed fourth in the 100 butterfly, and Cullen (1:35.74) took fifth. In the 100 freestyle, Gregg (1:09.34), Laborde (1:09.94), and Russek (1:16.52) took fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively. Perkins finished in fourth place in the 500 freestyle (6:36.28).
The 200 freestyle relay squad of Garofalo, Bautz, Laborde, and Perkins took first place (2:04.55). Second place went to Cullen, Russek, Ray, and Erodici (2:25.97). In the 100 backstroke, Lorusso took first place (1:24.73), Gregg came in second (1:24.82), and Wan finished in third (1:29.47). In the 100 breaststroke, Bautz took first (1:30.49), Roosevelt placed second (1:32.77), and Valentino placed third (1:34.90).
The 400 freestyle relay team of Garofalo, Laborde, Gregg, and Perkins won with a time of 4:40.42. The second place team consisted of Russek, Lorusso, Valentino, and Bautz (4:59.00).
Volleyball
North Haven volleyball traveled to Hamden on Sept. 23 and lost 3-0. Alyssa Ferriouolo had five digs in the contest.
Two days later, the team hit the road to Wilbur Cross took a 3-0 loss. Lucia Cavaliere had seven kills, and Alyssa DiGiovanna had six kills, six aces, and nine digs. Ferriouolo had 10 digs. Danielle Dixon had 13 assists.
The Nighthawks ended the week hosting Sacred Heart Academy on Sept. 27 and fell 3-0. DiGiovanna had nine kills, while Cavaliere had eight. Ferriouolo had 18 digs, Alex Anquillare had 12, and Olivia Jagiello had 10. Dixon had 22 assists.
