Girls’ Swimming Shines in Preseason Meet, Girls’ Soccer Wins a Duo

Volleyball

The Valley volleyball team hosted Old Lyme on Sept. 23 and won 3-1 (25-6, 22-25, 25-0, 25-12).

The Warriors then hosted Hale Ray on Sept. 25 and won 3-0.

On Sept. 27, Valley played host to Haddam-Killingworth and earned a 3-0 victory.

Girls’ Soccer

Valley girls’ soccer traveled to Old Lyme on Sept. 23 and won 3-0. Goals were scored by Ella Smith (two) and Makaylah Spencer. Madelyn Reibold and Spencer each had an assist, and Emma Reilly recorded four saves in goal.

The Warriors next hosted Old Saybrook on Sept. 26 and fell 4-3 Smith scored two goals, and Spencer added one. Reibold and Smith each had an assist.

On Sept. 28, Valley played host to Westbrook and won 2-0. Grace Bauer and Spencer were the two Warriors goal scorers.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The newly formed Shoreline Co-Op girls’ swimming team (with swimmers from Haddam-Killingworth, Valley Regional, Lyme-Old Lyme, and Old Saybrook) won four of eight relays in a pre-season relay meet held at Windsor Locks High School on Sept. 6. Shoreline girls raced against swimmers from Suffield, Windsor Locks Co-Op, and Hartford Co-Op/Bulkeley/HMTCA.

Shoreline swimmers who competed in the relay meet were Aria Cummings (freshman, H-K), Bethany Erkkila (junior, Valley Regional), Claire Johnson (freshman, Valley Regional), Elsa Shatraw (sophomore, H-K), Emma Wakelee (junior, Old Saybrook), Kinsley Grenier (freshman, Lyme-Old Lyme), Lauren Thebeau (freshman, H-K), Maggie Miller (junior, H-K), Olive Forristall (sophomore, H-K), Olivia Campo (senior, H-K), Olivia “Liv” Macaluso (senior, H-K), Phoebe Spallone (freshman, Valley Regional), Rose Dimmock (junior, Lyme-Old Lyme), Sasha Dziebel (junior, Old Saybrook), Sofia Campo (senior, H-K), Sophia Langer (sophomore, H-K), Veronica Pypa (senior, H-K) and Zi Abbott (sophomore, H-K).

Medals were awarded to first-place finishers. The winning relay teams for the Shoreline squad included the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Thebeau, Shatraw, Olivia Campo, and Miller. Also winning was the 400 freestyle relay squad of Spallone, Olivia Campo, Forristall, and Macaluso. The 200 medley relay of Spallone, Sofia Campo, Johnson, and Macaluso, grabbed a first place finish, as did the 200 freestyle relay team comprised of Miller, Spallone, Sofia Campo, and Johnson.

Boys’ Soccer

Valley boys’ soccer hosted Stafford on Sept. 23 and won 9-0. Nathan Crown scored the first two goals with assists by Caleb Winkley and Joe Welch. Welch scored the third goal with the assist from Patrick Finnegan.

The second half goals came from Owen Ingram,Tyler Benson, Birch Whitbeck, Varrick Recchia, Benny Cardoso, and Finnegan. Second half assists came from Benson, Finnegan, Aaron Johnson, and Keegan Colquhoun.

Kenny Batt had two saves, and Payton Riebold had one save in the shutout.

On Sept. 25, the team hosted Old Lyme and won 6-2. Goals came from Tucker Norton (two), Johnson, Crown, Finnegan, and Jack McPherson. Assists were credited to Welch, Norton, Gavin Abderhalden, McPherson, and Johnson.

Batt recorded eight saves.

The Warriors ended the week at Old Saybrook on Sept. 27 and lost 5-0. Batt recorded 21 saves in the contest.
