Football Falls Twice, Boys’ Soccer Wins a Pair
Boys’ Soccer
The Morgan boys’ soccer team hosted Westbrook on Sept. 23 and won 9-0. Goals for the Huskies were scored by Esteban Orozco (two) assisted by Edyn Ortiz and Jonny Gutierrez, Emiliano Miranda (three) assisted by Anthony Parades, Orozco, and Cinar Yucel, Gutierrez assisted by Miranda, Nate Kinser assisted by Gutierrez, Matt Maher assisted by Gutierrez, and Mark Rodriguez assisted by Avery Morello. Liam Totten recorded one save.
The team then hosted Cromwell on Sept. 25 and won 3-0. Gutierrez scored two goals assisted by Gavin Baptista and Miranda, Orozco knocked in a score assisted by Gutierrez. Totten had three saves.
Three days later, the Huskies hit the road to Ledyard and tied 3-3.
Girls’ Soccer
The Morgan girls’ soccer team traveled to Westbrook on Sept. 23 and won 6-0. Morgan’s goal scorers included Emma Holecz, Rachel Spaziano, Kate Gardner, Addy Reed, Sadie Passante, and Colbie LeClaire.
On Sept. 26, the team traveled to Cromwell and took a 2--1 loss. Passante scored an unassisted goal for the Huskies, and Lili Novicki recorded five saves.
Football
Morgan-Westbrook-Old Saybrook (MSW) football hit the road on Sept 19. to face off vs. Rockville. The game stayed fairly tight for the first quarter before Rockville scored two unanswered quick touchdowns. MSW found themselves playing from behind for the second straight week, and they got on the board with a late second quarter touchdown throw from Trevor Powell to Wes Percival.
The momentum from the MSW score was short lived, as Rockville connected on a half back pass for a touchdown right before halftime. The Rams ended up winning the game 34-7.
On Sept. 27, the team hosted North Branford and fell 34-21. MSW got into an early 14-point deficit but kept on fighting, bringing the game to within six points. Wide receiver Wes Percival caught two touchdown passes and a two point conversion from Trevor Powell, Hunter Roth also had a touchdown reception from Powell.
Volleyball
Morgan volleyball hosted North Branford on Sept. 23 and lost 3-0. Emma Teuner recorded four blocks, and Cora Dunham and Alyssa Ruthstrom each had 14 digs. Ava Ruotolo added 13 digs. Avery Vece recorded seven assists.
On Sept. 25, the Huskies hosted Coginchaug and took a 3-0 loss.
Two days later, Morgan hit the road to Portland and won 3-2.
