Football Takes a Tight Loss, Field Hockey Wins Twice


Football

North Branford football hosted Cromwell-Portland on Sept. 20 and lost 20-14. Aj Sigel rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, and he also threw for 135 yards and a touchdown on only nine passes. Tommy Hansen had 19 carries for 75 yards, and Greg Ferraro recorded 108 receiving yards on four receptions. Landen Burns recorded nine tackles, and Ferraro recorded eight. Michael Gualtieri caught a touchdown pass.

Boys’ Soccer

The North Branford boys’ soccer team traveled to Hale Ray on Sept. 16 and won 3-1.

On Sept. 19, the team hosted Old Lyme and tied 2-2.

The Thunderbirds played host to Wright Tech on Sept. 21 to end the week and won 11-1.

Girls’ Soccer

North Branford girls’ soccer hit the road to Old Lyme on Sept. 19 and fell 9-0.

Two days later, the team traveled to Oxford and lost 8-1.

Field Hockey

On Sept. 16, North Branford field hockey hosted Valley Regional and won 5-0.

Three days later, the team traveled to Morgan and won 2-0.

Volleyball

North Branford volleyball traveled to Portland on Sept. 16 and won 3-0. Olivia Cahill had six kills, and Ashley Berardesca had five. Samantha Melillo had eight aces, while Lauren Vitarisi had five digs and 15 assists.

The team then traveled to East Hampton on Sept. 18 and won 3-1. Cahill had 14 kills, and Adriana Hills had 32 digs. Vitarisi had 23 digs, while Melillo had 17. Vitarisi had 19 assists, while Melillo had 17.

The Thunderbirds ended the week at Cromwell on Sept. 20 and earned a 3-0 victory. Cahill recorded 13 kills, Payton Depino had 15 digs, and Melillo had 15 assists.
