Football Earns a Win, Volleyball Wins a Pair
Football
The Guilford football team traveled to Pomperaug on Sept. 20 and won 49-20. Caden Hillier picked up three rushing touchdowns in the victory, and he had 27 carries for 243 yards. Aidan Connelly had 19 total tackles, Rocco Barbera had 11, and Lucas Deshefy had 10. Chase Hall recorded 20 sacks.
Boys’ Soccer
Guilford boys’ soccer traveled to Daniel Hand on Sept. 17 and ended in a 2-2 tie.
On Sept. 21, the team hosted Old Lyme and won 3-1.
Girls’ Soccer
On Sept. 16, Guilford girls’ soccer hosted Lauralton Hall and won 2-0.
Three days later, the team hosted Daniel Hand and tied 0-0.
Volleyball
The Guilford volleyball team played host to Shelton on Sept. 16 and won 3-0.
Two days later, the team traveled to West Haven and earned a 3-0 win.
On Sept. 20, the Grizzlies hit the road to Amity and fell 3-1.
Field Hockey
On Sept. 17, Guilford field hockey hosted Amity and won 3-0.
Three days later, the team traveled to Hamden and won 3-1.
Boys’ Cross Country
Guilford boys’ cross country traveled to Wilton on Sept. 14, where the Grizzlies took fourth place in the small team division among a very strong field with many top teams and individuals from the state.
Top performers included freshman Jackson Gould, who was 41st place in 17:41, followed by sophomore Lewis Thoreen (17:56) in 49th place. Sophomore Jordan Espinosa was 67th in 18:13, followed by sophomore Luca Esposito-Langlais (80th) in a time of 18:32. Rounding out the top five was junior Aaron Kowalonek, who was 100th in 18:58.
On Sept. 17, the boys were in Hamden for a quad meet, where they faced off against North Haven, Lyman Hall, and Hamden and earned a clean sweep. Guilford placed first with 36 points, followed by Hamden with 47 points, then North Haven with 70 points, and Lyman Hall with 94 points.
Top finishers of the day for Guilford were Gould, who was fourth overall in 16:51, followed by Thoreen (17:22) in sixth place. Espinosa was seventh in 17:40, Kowalonek was eighth in 17:42, and sophomore David Zhang was 11th in 18:17 to round out the top five.
