Girls’ Soccer Wins Two, Football Dominates at Home

Volleyball

The North Haven volleyball team traveled to East Haven on Sept. 16 and won 3-0. Lucia Cavaliere had seven kills and six digs, and Alyssa DiGiovanna had five kills. Kailyn Gilmore also had five aces and 17 assists. Alyssa Ferriouolo picked up five digs, while Alex Anquillare had four.

The Nighthawks then hosted Amity on Sept. 18 and took a 3-0 loss. Cavaliere had five kills, and Elena Alexandro had three. DiGiovanna (Player of the Match) recorded 14 digs, and Ferriouolo had 12. Gilmore had eight assists.

North Haven ended the week on Sept. 20, hosting West Haven and winning 3-0. DiGiovanna was named the Player of the Match for the Nighthawks. She had 10 kills, two aces, two blocks, and three digs. She also had one assist. Danielle Dixon also had 10 assists.

Girls’ Soccer

North Haven girls’ soccer hosted Wilbur Cross on Sept. 17 and won 8-0. In the first half, Maya Thompson scored in the first minute assisted by Olivia Ranciato, and Gia Giamo scored in the 13th minute assisted by Thompson. Ava Tarasuk added an unassisted goal in the 20th minute, while Ranciato scored in the 22nd minute assisted by Thompson.

Giamo added more to the scoring in the 24th minute with a goal assisted by Tarasuk, while Thompson scored in the 24th minute unassisted. Rebecca Ortiz scored in the 39th minute assisted by Hannah Bernando. Alivia Garnett manned the net in the first half, recording zero saves but allowing no scores.

In the second half, Olivia McBride scored for the Nighthawks in the 70th minute assisted by Alyanah Santos. Addie Whitcomb manned the net in the second half and kept the shutout alive while recording zero saves. North Haven had 18 shots on goal in the contest, while Wilbur Cross had just three.

The Nighthawks then hit the road to West Haven on Sept. 20 and earned a 3-0 win. The first Nighthawks goal was scored by Bernando in the 49th minute unassisted. The second goal was scored by Thompson, assisted by Tarasuk, in the 55th minute. Tarasuk also added an unassisted score. North Haven had 17 shots on goal, and Garnett and Whitcomb each had one save in net.

Boys’ Soccer

The North Haven boys’ soccer team hit the road to Jonathan Law on Sept. 17 and won 3-0. Jett Rosekopf scored two goals for the Nighthawks, and Luciano Calderón scored one. Jack Notaro recorded two assists, and Joey Solimene had one.

The team then hosted Wilbur Cross on Sept. 19 and tied 0-0. Josh Stefanik was selected Player of the Game for North Haven.

Field Hockey

North Haven field hockey hosted Sheehan on Sept. 17 and took a 3-0 loss.

On Sept. 21, the Nighthawks hit the road to Shelton and fell 4-0.

Football

North Haven football played host to Hamden on Sept. 20 and won 33-12. Freshman Artie McCormack IV scored his first two varsity touchdowns in the contest. Joey Mastroianni and Luke Asbury each recovered a fumble. Chris Cretella started the scoring with a 42-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and Nicholas Romano scored on a five-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Mastroianni also had a 26-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Stephens on fourth and 10.

Girls’ Swimming

The North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team traveled to West Haven on Sept. 19 and won 94-83. In the 200 medley relay, Giada Garofalo, Angelina Valentino, Kelsey Perkins, and Amelia Bautz took first place with a time of 2:20.33. In the 200 meter freestyle, Andrea Laborde took second place (2:36.58), Avery Cullen placed fourth (2:41.18), and Scarlett Russek took fifth (2:44.07). Perkins won the 200 individual medley (2:44.57), Cosma Gregg placed second (2:53.40), and Kaili Wan placed fourth (3:27.57).

Several North Haven swimmers showed out in the 50 freestyle, including Bautz in second (30:23), Valentino in fifth (31.89), Tessa Boisseau in sixth (32.51), Reese Tesla in seventh (37.17), Payton Erodici in eighth (40.88), and Brigette Perez-Carreto in ninth (46.34). In the one meter dive, Riley Mattox took first place (173.30), Else Roosevelt took second (140.40), and Destiny Wininger took third (129.05).

Perkins placed first in the 100 butterfly (1:15.77), while Bautz placed third (125.14). In the 100 freestyle, Garofalo won (1:02.27), Abigail Lorusso placed third (1:09.77), and Boisseau placed fifth (1:13.07). In the 500 freestyle, Laborde claimed second place (7:09.74), and Cullen finished right behind in third place (7:13.73).

In the 200 relay, Gregg, Valentino, Russek, and Laborde took second place (2:10.22). Tesla, Boisseau, Roosevelt, and Cullen placed third (2:16.82). Mars McCann, Erodici, Perez-Carreto, and Falak Awais took fifth (3:08.77). Garofalo won the 100 backstroke (1:11.04), while Lorusso took fourth (1:24.21). Wan placed sixth in that event (1:28.37). Gregg (1:29.94) placed second in the 100 breaststroke, and Valentino (1:33.93) took third. Russek placed fourth in that event (1:39.19).
