Football Drops Season Opener, Field Hockey Wins Twice

Boys’ Soccer

The Westbrook boys’ soccer team opened its season at home vs. Hale Ray on Sept. 5 and won 3-0. Goals were scored by Wilson Rivera, Didier Lobo, and Gabriel DeAlmedia. Jeffery Chiriap had six saves in net to secure the shutout.

On Sept. 9, the Knights hosted Portland and secured a 1-0 win. The game-winning goal was scored with under 10 minutes remaining by Rivera. Chiriap had five saves to secure the shutout.

Westbrook hit the road to Old Lyme on Sept. 12 and fell 3-0.

The team ended the week at home vs. Grasso Tech on Sept. 14 and took a 2-1 loss.

Field Hockey

The Westbrook/Lyme-Old Lyme field hockey team hosted Haddam-Killingworth on Sept. 10 and won 1-0. Mirabel Rinker scored the lone goal for the Wild Knights, and it was assisted by Brooke Ouellette. Grace Vincent recorded one save in goal.

On Sept. 13, the team traveled to Valley Regional and won 2-0. Anne Marie Hinckley scored a goal assisted by Sybil Neary, and Ouellette knocked in a score assisted by Bella Ziegler.

Football

Morgan-Old Saybrook-Westbrook football hosted Valley Regional/Old Lyme in its season opener on Sept. 13 and took a 23-13 loss. Luke McComiskey caught two touchdowns and had an interception, and Trevor Powell passed for 178 yards and two touchdowns.

Girls’ Soccer

On Sept. 10, the Westbrook girls’ soccer team traveled to Portland and took a 1-0 loss.

The Knights then hosted Windham on Sept. 12 and fell 3-2.

The next day, Westbrook hosted Old Lyme and lost 2-0.
