Cross Country Hosts Senior Day, Football Loses Season Opener
Boys’ Soccer
The Morgan boys’ soccer team hosted Valley Regional on Sept. 9 and won 4-1. Goals for the Huskies were scored by Jonny Gutierrez (two) assisted by Nate Kinser (two), Esteban Orozco (assisted by Gutierrez), and Gavin Baptista (assisted by Aidan Campion). Liam Totten recorded five saves.
Morgan then hosted Haddam-Killingworth on Sept. 12 and blanked the Cougars 3-0. Gutierrez scored two goals, assisted by Emiliano Miranda and Kinser. Kinser also added a goal assisted by Gutierrez. Totten tallied eight saves in net.
Two days later, Morgan played host to East Lyme and tied 3-3. Gutierrez scored all three goals, assisted by Cinar Yucel and Kinser (two).
Cross Country
The Morgan boys’ and girls’ cross country team hosted Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Valley Regional on Sept. 10 for Senior Day, honoring the team’s two seniors in Natalie Estabrook (four-year senior, captain) and Andrew Auletta (four-year senior, captain).
In the boys’ race, Michael Bowker placed second (19:18). Owen Lombardi took fifth place (19:44), and Calder Holt placed 11th (21:03). Anthony Strunjo took 16th place with a time of 22:18, while Auletta placed 19th with a time of 22:32. Luke Rodriguez took 25th (24:26).
In the girls’ race, Estabrook placed 13th with a time of 25:01.
Additionally, at the Blue Dragon Invitational on Sept. 7, Estabrook placed 49th (26:02.78), and Lombardi (19:54.52) and Bowker (20:00.37) claimed 32nd and 33rd place, respectively, while Holt placed 62nd (22:03.12). Strunjo (23:35.10) and Auletta (23:38.14) took 68th and 69th, respectively, and Rodriguez took 73rd (25:29.37). The boys placed 11th as a team with 264 points.
Girls’ Soccer
The Morgan girls’ soccer team traveled to Valley Regional on Sept. 10 and earned a 3-2 win.
Field Hockey
Morgan field hockey traveled to Valley Regional on Sept. 10 and won 1-0.
Three days later, the Huskies hosted Old Saybrook and fell 1-0.
Volleyball
The Morgan volleyball team played host to East Hampton on Sept. 9 and fell 3-1.
On Sept. 11, the squad traveled to Cromwell and took a 3-2 loss.
Two days later, the Huskies hit the road to Haddam-Killingworth and fell 3-2.
Football
Morgan-Old Saybrook-Westbrook football hosted Valley Regional/Old Lyme in its season opener on Sept. 13 and took a 23-13 loss. Luke McComiskey caught two touchdowns and had an interception, and Trevor Powell passed for 178 yards and two touchdowns.
