Volleyball Wins a Pair, Field Hockey Wins Season Opener

Boys’ Soccer

The North Branford boys’ soccer team traveled to Kolbe Cathedral on Sep. 3 for the first game of the season and lost 6-1.

On Sep. 5, the team hosted Morgan and fell 7-0. Joey LaCerva recorded seven saves in goal.

Girls’ Soccer

North Branford girls’ soccer hosted Kolbe Cathedral in its season opener on Sep. 3 and won 6-5.

The girls hit the road to Morgan on Sep. 6 and fell 10-1.

Field Hockey

On Sep. 6, North Branford field hockey opened the season at Westbrook and won 1-0. Bella Warren got the Thunderbirds on the board with a goal assisted by Liv Schmidt. Madison DiStefano recorded five saves in net.

Volleyball

The North Branford volleyball team began the fall season on Sep. 3, traveling to Old Lyme and winning 3-0. Olivia Cahill led the way with 12 kills. Alexa Snedeker and Ashley Berardesca each had four, while Lauren Vitarisi, Samantha Melillo, Payton Depino, and Adriana Hills all recorded two. Ella Chasanoff had one kill. Melillo also had seven aces, and Hills had 11 digs. Melillo recorded 14 assists, and Vitarisi recorded 12.

The Thunderbirds then played host to Hale Ray on Sep. 5 and won 3-2. Cahill had 10 kills, followed by Chasanoff with seven. Vitarisi and Depino had five kills each, and Melillo had two. Snedeker, Hills, and Berardesca each had one kill. Melillo also recorded six aces and 17 assists. For digs, Vitarisi had 31, Melillo had 30, Hills had 26, and Depino had 16.
