Volleyball Falls Twice, Boys’ Soccer Splits the Week
Boys’ Soccer
The Branford boys’ soccer team began the season at home vs. Amistad on Sep. 3 and won 4-0.
On Sep. 5, the team played host to Wilbur Cross and fell 5-2.
Girls’ Soccer
Branford girls’ soccer traveled to Jonathan Law on Sep. 5 for the first game of the season and took a 3-0 loss.
Field Hockey
The Branford field hockey team hosted Wilton on Sep. 7 in its season opener and fell 4-1.
Volleyball
The Hornets volleyball team hit the road to East Haven for the first match of the season on Sep. 3 and took a 3-2 loss. Sailor Plourde had 14 kills, followed by Julia Burton with 10. Sophia Santos recorded eight kills, and Julianne Henkel and Riley O’Brien each had three. Madison McClain had two kills, followed by Stella Andresen with one. Plourde also had three blocks and 10 digs, while Burton had 10 digs. Henkel had 24 assists.
On Sep. 5, Branford hosted Foran and lost 3-0. Plourde led the way with six kills, and O’Brien had 14 digs. Henkel picked up 20 assists.
Cross Country
On Sep. 7, the Branford boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed at the Neubauer Invitational at Sheehan. On the girls’ side, Charlotte Kenney placed sixth (19:43.1), and Caitlyn Lentner took 18th ( 21:26.2).
The boys took eighth place as a team with 197 points. David Regan placed 12th (17:01.9), and Sawyer Gaudreau took 43rd (19:44.8). Cormac Fichtenholz finished in 46th place with a time of 20:04.4, while Cooper Ranton took 50th (20:27.5). Paul Lesyk followed in 51st place (20:28.0), and Supremee Shrestha (22:11.3) took 61st.
“Charlotte Kenney ran outstanding on a difficult course; she has worked hard, and we hope to see great efforts from her this season,” said Head Coach Kevin Connell. “David Regan has really dedicated himself over the summer to cross country, and it is showing in his performance.”
