Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The Hand girls’ swimming and diving team looks forward to a strong season in the pool, returning a lot of scoring members from last year’s Class S state runner-up team, as the Tigers look to claim a state title this fall.

Key swimmers to look out for this fall include senior Samy Chemacki (Class S champion in the 100 meter breaststroke and holds the school record). She also placed third in the 200 individual medley (IM) last fall and made All-State. Senior Lillian Miller took fourth in the 200 freestyle and second in the 500 freestyle at the Class S finals last year, qualifying her for All-State. Senior Ariana Potter was 10th in Class S in both the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke a year ago, while senior Georgia Cohen placed 12th in Diving at the Class S State Championship meet.

Senior Emily Butler was 15th in the state in the 100 butterfly and 24th in the 100 backstroke last fall, and junior Ella Speerli took second in Diving at the Class S meet, earning All-State honors. Junior Sofia Rastelli was ninth in the 100 butterfly, 15th in the 500, and a member of the 400 freestyle relay that placed second and earned All-State.

Sophomore Anna Jacob is back for another season after placing eighth in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle, barely missing All-State. Up-and-coming freshmen Sophia Schiavonne and Mady Zaneski are experienced USA swimmers looking to make a splash on the high school scene.
