Field Hockey Wins a Trio, Volleyball Splits the Week

Boys’ Soccer

The Guilford boys’ soccer team hosted Hamden in the season opener on Sep. 3 and won 3-0.

On Sep. 6, Guilford traveled to West Haven and won 2-0.

Girls’ Soccer

Guilford girls’ soccer traveled to Sacred Heart Academy for the season opener on Sep. 3 and took a narrow 1-0 loss.

The Grizzlies then hit the road to Lyman Hall on Sep. 5 and won 6-0.

Volleyball

Grizzlies volleyball faced Daniel Hand on the road on Sep. 3 to begin the season, blanking the Tigers 3-0.

Two days later, Guilford hosted Cheshire and fell 3-2.

Field Hockey

On Sep. 3, the Guilford field hockey team kicked off its season at Cheshire and won 6-1.

Two days later, the Grizzlies played host to East Lyme and grabbed a 5-1 victory.

On Sep. 7, Guilford hosted Stonington and grabbed a 2-1 overtime win.

In what was a red-hot start to the season, the Grizzlies were led by goal scorers in sophomore Zoe Tsoukanelis (five goals) and seniors Cassie Ward and Caroline Hergan, who had four goals each. Hergan scored both goals to win the Stonington game, and goalie Addie Oakes had 23 saves for the week.
