Guilford’s Epke Named to US U20 Women’s Lacrosse National Team
Guilford’s Maddie Epke has been named to the 2024 US U20 Women’s Lacrosse National Team, which will compete in the World Championships in Hong Kong this from Thursday, Aug. 15 to Sunday, Aug. 25.
Epke is a rising junior attack for the James Madison women’s lacrosse team, and she earned a spot on USA’s final 22-person roster. She won two girls’ lacrosse state championships in high school, helping to lead the Grizzlies to Class M crowns in 2021 and 2022.
As a 2022 graduate of Guilford High School, Epke had a record-breaking season for James Madison this past year. She set the school’s single-season mark with 178 draw controls and also ranked sixth in the country with 8.9 draw controls per game. In 20 games, Epke secored 80 points with 57 goals and 23 assists. She also had 18 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers.
Epke was an ILWomen and USA Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention and was named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-South Region and American Athletic Conference First Teams. She was also in the 2024 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, and she was named the IWLCA Division I Offensive Player of the week twice.
