Alexander and Fengler State Champions at Branford Father’s Day Road Race

Waterford’s Samuel Alexander and Wallingford’s Elizabeth Fengler claimed victory in the Five-Mile State Championship at the Branford Road Race. More than 2,200 runners and walkers took part in the events on the Branford Green, which included a Five-Mile Road Race, a Two-Mile Fitness Walk, and a One-Mile Family Fun Run.

Farmington’s Mario Vasquez pushed the pace early and was leading by over 200 yards early in the race. Alexander caught Vasquez only a few feet from the finish line, winning in a thrilling photo finish. Both finished the race in 25:17. Fengler, defending her 2023 title, finished in 29:01. Glastonbury’s Alyssa Natario finished shortly after Fengler in 29:13.

In the One-Mile Family Fun Run, Ivoryton’s Lyla Lopez emerged victorious with a time of 6:15. Branford’s Joseph St. Pierre was the first male finisher, coming in just behind at 6:25.

The nonprofit event was sponsored by H.D. Segur Insurance, Stony Creek Brewery, Medtronic, Connecticut Orthopaedics, Hartford HealthCare, Madison Polymeric Engineering, Marathon Sports, What’s the Issue Comics & More, Bausch + Strobel, LesserEvil, Crosspoint Federal Credit Union, Branford Coworking, Branford Community Foundation, TYCO Print, 99.1 PLR, and The Sound. Proceeds of the event will benefit a number of local organizations, including the Branford Food Pantry, Branford Community Dining Room, Camp Rising, and a couple of Parkinson charities.
