Guilford’s U-12 Boys’ Travel Soccer Team Wins Presidents Cup
The Soccer Club of Guilford (SCOG) U-12 boys’ travel soccer team traveled to West Virginia on June 14 to represent the town of Guilford in the Presidents Cup (regional tournament). After many games throughout the weekend against teams from Virginia, Maine, West Virginia, and other states, the team qualified for the finals against West Virginia. On June 18, Guilford won the championship game 3-1 to bring home the winning trophy.
The team, coached by Ian Shannon, advanced to the semifinals on June 17 after a second-place finish in group play. The boys secured a 2-1 record behind a 13-4 goal differential, carrying that momentum into a Monday outing against Lower Merion SC Rovers Navy 2012 (PAE). Guilford defeated the Group B winner by a tally of 2-1. Both goals were scored by Alex Vigliotti.
In the finals the next day, Guilford faced FC Alliance 2012 and earned a 3-1 victory. Reese Simpson, Vigliotti, and Zachary Vetrano each scored in the contest.
Additional athletes on the roster that were unable to travel to West Virginia included Elliot Silverman, Finn Bloom, Nolan Zaweski, Oliver Votto, and Owen Correll.
