Girls’ Tennis Falls Valiantly in State Semis

Girls’ Tennis

On May 24, the Westbrook girls’ tennis team opened the Class S State Tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Knights hosted 14th-seeded Portland and won 7-0. Megan Bache won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Ana Heringer earned a No. 2 singles win (6-4, 5-7, (10-2)). Anna Landino (6-1, 6-3) won at No. 3 singles, and Emily Bonner played in the fourth singles spot and won 6-4, 6-2.

On the doubles side, Olivia Palumbo and Lotta Kuenning won 6-0, 6-1. Natalie Palumbo and Giovanna Silva won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, and Norah Hayden and Neave Hinckley won 6-1, 6-3 in the third doubles spot.

In the quarterfinals on May 28, Westbrook hosted No. 11 Immaculate and earned a 5-2 win.

Bache won 6-1, 6-0, and Bonner earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory. For doubles, Olivia Palumbo and Kuenning won 6-2, 6-2. Natalie Palumbo and Silva earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Hayden and Hinckley concluded the doubles sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

On May 29, Westbrook traveled to second-seeded Old Lyme in the semifinals and fell 6-1 to close out a fantastic season. The lone victory for the Knights came from Natalie Palumbo and Silva (6-4, 6-2).
