Girls’ Outdoor Track Sets New School Relay Record, Softball Takes States Loss

Softball

On May 23, No. 2 North Haven softball fell 7-2 vs. No. 1 Cheshire in the SCC Championship game. Avery Berney went 1-for-3 and drove in a run. Alyssa Ferriouolo, Isabella Blanchard, and Alyssa DiGiovanna also recorded a hit. Reece Hebert took the mound and pitched five innings. She gave up 10 hits and one earned run and struck out four batters. Gabriella Blanchard pitched an inning in relief and gave up zero runs.

The team then entered the Class L State Tournament as the No. 4 seed and earned a bye in the first round.

In the second round on May 29, the Nighthawks hosted No. 13 Guilford and took a 3-0 loss.

Baseball

North Haven baseball began the Class L State Tournament as the No. 17 seed. In the first round on May 28, the Nighthawks traveled to No. 16 Berlin and fell 7-6 in 10 innings.

Boys’ Golf

The North Haven golf team finished the regular season with a record of 13-2, ranking the squad fourth in Division I and seventh statewide. Will Sagnella and James Sagnella both qualified for the State Open at Mohegan Sun on Friday, June 7.

On May 28, the team competed at the SCC Championship and tied with Cheshire for the runner-up spot with 316 points, just two strokes back of the co-champions. Will Sagnella, James Sagnella, and Logan Wells all earned All-SCC honors. Head Coach Kevin St. Pierre was named the conference’s Coach of the Year.

Girls’ Outdoor Track

On May 28, the North Haven girls’ outdoor track team competed at the Class MM State Championship. The 4x800 meter relay team of Rebecca Ford, Emma Pincince, Daniella Rapuano, and Ava Tarasuk placed sixth, medaled, and set a new school record of 10:03.50. Ford’s older sister Alexandra was on the team 10 years ago, when the previous record was set.

Tarasuk took fourth place in the 1600 (5:32). Stella Shaw placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 3.75 inches. Shaw also placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 33 feet.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

North Haven boys’ outdoor track competed in the Class MM State Championship meet on May 28. Matt DeNardis placed eighth in the 1600 meters (4:30.76). Chris Cretella earned a third place finish in the 100 (11.21). Jeremy Edie (50.70) took fifth place in the 400, and Nico Boyle (9:21) took second in the 3200.

Girls’ Golf

North Haven’s Hannah Deane competed in the SCC Girls’ Golf Tournament on May 30 at Silo Point Country Club in Southbury. She shot a 110 and placed 20th out of 32 golfers.
