Baseball Wins a Pair of Conference Tournament Games, Several Athletes Named All-Conference

Baseball

Hand baseball hosted Lyman Hall in the quarterfinals of the SCC Tournament on May 20 and earned a 1-0 win in 10 innings. Payton Powell and Johnny Reh combined for 11 strikeouts during the two-hit shutout. Paul Calandrelli had a lead-off double in the 10th inning before scoring the winning run on a wild pitch. Tai Nuzzi had two hits, including a double. Both teams combined for only one error.

The next day, the team hosted North Haven in the semifinals and won 5-1. Brandon SanMarco pitched a complete game four-hitter and allowed zero earned runs. Vinny Benevento went 3-3 with two RBI. Nuzzi and Nick Maynard added RBI singles.

Several Hand baseball players were honored as All-SCC athletes this spring. Powell and Nick Antonetti were named to the First Team. Maynard and Calandrelli earned Second Team honors.

Girls’ Tennis

On May 19, Hand girls’ tennis hosted Stonington for its final regular season match and lost 6-1. The lone win for the Tigers came from Antoinette Lowy, who made quick work of her opponent 6-1, 6-3.

In the first round of the SCC Tournament on May 20, Hand fell to Amity 5-2. Wins for the Tigers came from No. 1 doubles team Teagan Ariyan and Juliana Jorens (6-4, 6-4), bringing their season record to 11-2, and Lowy at No. 3 singles, who coasted to a 6-0, 6-1 victory and improved to 12-3 on the season.

In terms of All-SCC honors, singles player Loden Bradstreet earned a spot on the Second Team. For doubles, Ariyan and Jorens were named to the First Team.

Softball

Reese Ciecko and Alexa Young were named to the All-SCC Second Team for Hand softball this spring.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The All-SCC athletes for boys’ lacrosse were recently announced. PJ O’Hanlon earned a spot on the Tier 1 First Team, and Connor Balletto earned Tier 1 Second Team honors.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Several Hand girls’ lacrosse players earned a spot on the All-SCC Team for their contributions this spring. Haley Wines (attack), Claire Levis (midfield), Bridget Waters (defense), and Elizabeth Walsh (defense) earned spots on the First Team. Paige Steffan (defense) earned a spot on the Second Team.

Boys’ Tennis

The All-SCC athletes were announced for boys’ tennis. Elliot Booth represented Hand as a First Team singles player. For doubles, Paul Fumex and Deacon Wilkens earned a spot on the First Team.
