The Nighthawks girls’ lacrosse team traveled to SCC rival Mercy on May 6. North Haven spotted the home team an early 6-1 lead after a slow start. At that point, the defense tightened, and the Nighthawks tried to pull themselves back into the contest. First half goals were tallied by seniors Catherine Bianchi (two) and Nola Coyle.
Junior goalie Emily Shea played well in the cage all day, stopping more than 50% of her opponents’ attempts. She was supported by the Nighthawks defenders of Kylie Pollard, Liv Hollovach, Ava Chagnon, Rap Raposo, and Malika Gazzarapu.
North Haven had goals in the second half by Coyle and Bianchi. Freshman Peyton Harkins tallied her first varsity goal in the fourth quarter. Although the half was even, the Nighthawks could not overcome the early deficit. The final score was 12-7 in Mercy’s favor.
Boys’ Tennis
North Haven boys’ tennis hosted Hamden on May 6 and fell 4-3. Parthiv Patel earned a victory at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-3), and Jack Segna earned a win at third singles (6-3, 6-3). Braden Cohen competed at No. 4 singles and won 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
Softball
On May 6, North Haven softball hosted Branford and won 7-0. Emelia Brandi went 1-for-1 with two RBI. Ninamarie Demannato, Gabriella Blanchard, and Alyssa Ferriouolo each drove in a run. Alexandra Anquillare had three hits in the contest. Reece Hebert pitched seven innings, giving up four hits and zero earned runs while recording 15 strikeouts.
The team then hosted East Haven on May 8 and won 11-2. Isabella Blanchard recorded three RBI on two hits. Anquillare picked up two RBI, and Brandi also drove in two runs on three hits, including a home run. Alyssa DiGiovanna also picked up an RBI. On the mound, Gabriella Blanchard went seven innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs. She struck out six batters.
The Nighthawks closed out the week at Fitch on May 11, and they won 4-2. Gabriella Blanchard went 3-for-3, and Anquillare went 2-for-3. Anquillare and Chloe Belcher each drove in a run. Gabrielle Blanchard took the mound for North Haven and pitched a complete seven-inning game. She gave up four hits and two earned runs and generated three strikeouts.
