Softball, Golf Earn Big Wins on the Week

Golf

The North Branford golf team hosted Cromwell on May 7 and won 191-199. Jack O’Brien was the medalist for the match with a 39. Robert Cappella scored a 51, Jack Monde earned a 49, and Luca Intravia recorded a 52 on the course.

Softball

On May 7, North Branford softball hosted Cromwell and earned a big 18-2 win. Several players recorded RBI in the contest, including Lauren Vitarisi (two), Kiley Mullins (three), Natalia Lucibello (one), Adriana Hills (one), Lexi Falcioni (three), Gabi Senerchia (three), Lily Ardito (one), and Alia Martone (two). Vitarisi went 3-for-3, and Falcioni went 3-for-4. Mullins pitched five innings and gave up seven hits and two earned runs. She also struck out seven batters.

The next day, the team traveled to Valley Regional and won 22-0. Lindsey Onofrio had a big day, driving in five runs on three hits. Other RBI came from Vitarisi (one), Madi DeStefano (two), Lucibello (three), Hils (one), Falcioni (three), Senerchia (two), and Martone (one). Vitarisi went 4.1 innings on the mound, giving up zero earned runs and striking out seven batters. Emilyn Nay then pitched .2 innings and completed the shutout.

On May 9, the Thunderbirds hosted East Haven and earned an 11-2 win. Vitarisi had five RBI, Mullins had one, Onofrio had one, Senerchia had one, and Martone had two. Vitarisi went 2-for-4 at the plate. Mullins went the distance on the mound, giving up zero earned runs and striking out 12.

North Branford closed out the week at Norwich Free Academy on May 11 and lost 4-1. Vitarisi, Onofrio, Hills, and Martone all recorded a hit. Mullins went six innings on the mound, giving up three earned runs and striking out six.
