The H-K golf team traveled to North Branford on April 22 for a match that also included Coginchaug. The Cougars placed first with an overall score of 185. Declan Kessler scored a 48, Owen Staskelunas earned a 45, Andrew Crayton recorded a 42 on the course, and Braylon Rodriquez scored a 50.
On April 24, the team hosted East Hampton and won 187-190. Declan Kessler scored a 43 and was a co-medalist for the match. Cam Moore earned a 46, and Owen Staskelunas recorded a 49. Andrew Crayton also scored a 49.
The next day, H-K played host to Hale Ray and won 176-188. Crayton earned a 43 on the course, Staskelunas recorded a 44, Moore scored a 44, and Kessler scored a 45.
Baseball
On April 22, H-K baseball hosted Old Lyme and won 4-0.
The team then traveled to Suffield on April 24 and lost 8-1. Luke Mauri had two hits to lead the Cougars.
On April 25, the Cougars hit the road to Hale Ray and earned a 13-2 victory. Max Selmer and Chase Bruno each had three his in the contest. Selmer also had three RBI to lead H-K’s offense. Matt Shea scattered four hits while striking out eight batters to go the distance.
Outdoor Track
On April 23, the H-K boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to East Hampton to compete in a tri-meet that also included North Branford. The boys’ team defeated North Branford by a score of 127-23 and East Hampton by a score of 99-51 to improve the dual meet season record to 4-0.
Leading the way for the Cougars were the following event winners: Daniel McCourt in the 800 meters (2:11) and the 1600 (4:46), Jack Cozean in the 3200 (10:46), Eli Hamann-Shay in the 400 (52.4), Ryan Ruggerio in the 110 hurdles (18.3), Luke Hedges in the 300 hurdles (47.3), Trevor Dixon in the javelin (142'3"), and Luke Staskelunas in the triple jump (39'2"). The boys also swept all three relays, winning the 4x800, 4x100, and 4x400.
The H-K girls’ team went 1-1 on the day, as they defeated North Branford by a score of 120-29 but lost to East Hampton by a score of 89-61.
Leading the way for the Cougars were the following event winners: Mariella Fulcher in the 100 (12.9), 200 (26.6), and 400 (61.5), Charlotte Behnke in the 1600 (5:44), Julia Downing in the 3200 (14:51), and Adrianna Garoppolo in the long jump (13'11").The girls’ 4x800 relay team was also victorious on the afternoon to contribute team points.
