Baseball Wins Three Times, Outdoor Track Takes Competitive Loss

The East Haven baseball team hosted Daniel Hand on April 22 and fell 17-5 in six innings. Billy Barthel had two hits and an RBI.

The next day, the team traveled to Wilbur Cross and earned a 10-3 victory before winning 18-6 at Bassick on April 24.

The team closed out the week on April 26, when they traveled to Branford and won 2-1.

Outdoor Track

East Haven outdoor track hosted Amity and Sheehan on April 23. On the boys’ side, the Yellowjackets fell 123-25 vs. Sheehan and took a 120-30 loss vs. Amity. The girls took a 102-38 defeat vs. Sheehan and a 98-48 loss vs. Amity.

Drew Kitson placed eighth in the 100 meters (12.19), and teammate Aiden Esposito (12.23) took ninth. Esposito also took ninth in the 200 (24.76). In the 400, Alec Richards came in sixth (58.44), and Yariel Santiago took 10th (1:02.66).

Liam Gilson competed in the 800 and earned a second place finish with a time of 2:14.03. Dylan Lopez claimed fifth place (2:28. 96), and Kwiku Antwi took 10th (2:37.22). Gilson (5:01.17) took sixth in the 1600, and Jacob Ushchak (13:25.99) claimed a ninth place finish in the 3200. Moiyad Shnan followed in 10th place in that event with a time of 13:33.60. Cru Faughnan took fourth place in the 110 hurdles (20.94). He also took fourth in the 300 hurdles (52,41), followed by London Garcia in fifth (53.61).

The 4x100 relay team, comprised of Esposito, Nick Bilides, Richard Ackom-Brew, and Kitson, placed second and recorded a time of 47.39. The 4x400 team placed fifth (3:57.33), and that squad included Esposito, Gilson, Faughnan, and Yariel Santiago. East Haven had two teams compete in the 4x800 and they placed third and fourth, respectively. The third place team (10:28.36) included Sean McCrimmons, Jon Maza, Danny Yanza, and Prit Patel. The fourth place team (11:45.07) was comprised of Anthony Lucci, Kwiku Antwi, Dylan Lopez, and Daniel Lares.

Richard Jones won the shot put (48’0). William Mensah (37’9.5) took fifth place, and Rafael Gutierrez (36’5) took sixth place. Gutierrez claimed fith place in the discus (102’7), and Jones took sixth (101’7). Joseph Carangelo earned a ninth place finish (91’4). Marc Gargano took sixth place in the javelin (107’0).

Kitson (5’2) was the fifth place finisher in the high jump, and London Garcia (16’10) took ninth in the long jump. Bilides (16’9) took 10th in that event. Garcia also took fifth place in the triple jump (37’0), and Kitson took ninth (34’8).

On the girls’ side, Lanie D’Auria took second place in the 100 (13.30), and Gianna Dilapi took sixth (13.95). Ella Dinola finished in ninth place (14.58). D’Auria also took second in the 200 (27.99), followed by Dilapi in sixth (29.18). Ella Dinola took sixth place in the 400 (1:13.69), and Madison Paolella took seventh (1:18.58).

Sarai Murphy (3:14.01), Ariella Guadalupe (3:25. 67), and Isabella Velazquez (3:29.20) took eighth, ninth, and 10th, respectively, in the 800. Guadalupe also took sixth in the 1600 (7:23.25), and Mei Shnan took seventh (7:52.44). Velazquez took eighth in that event (8:05.11).

Erica Canfield won the 110 hurdles (16.83), and Jillian Sperduti took third place (17.26). Mallory Boney (18.74) took fifth. Canfield also took second in the 300 hurdles (51.18). Sperduti (58.96) took fifth, and Kiley Mazzucco took sixth (59.27).

East Haven’s 4x100 relay team took third place, which was comprised of Ava Panico, Dilapi, Paolella, and Dinola and recorded a time of 56.23. The 4x400 team, including Dinola, Mazzucco, Dilapi, and Paolella, took third place (4:59.11). The Yellowjackets got a third-place finish from the 4x800 squad, comprised of Guadalupe, Murphy, Shnan, and Velazquez (13:06.63).

Aniya Franklin won the shot put (33’5), and Mercilyn Ackom-Brew took fourth (27’11.25). Olivia Moody (22’6.5) took 10th. Franklin also won the discus (98’2), and Moody took seventh (60’3). Mallory Boney claimed first place in the javelin (91’0), and Panico took fifth (67’2). Franklin (66’0) took sixth in that event, and Genesie Alvarez (65’9) took seventh.

Boney (4’6) was the third place finisher in the high jump, while D’Auria (7’0) claimed sixth place in the pole vault. D’Auria (14’11) took fourth place in the long jump, and Canfield finished in fifth (14’9.5). Boney took sixth place in that event (14’2). Canfield claimed third in the triple jump (31’5).
