Girls’ Lacrosse

After a tough start to the first week of the 2024 campaign, the North Haven girls’ lacrosse team exploded offensively and garnered a big win at home against West Haven on April 8, as the eclipse was settling in the horizon.

The Nighthawks came out flying in the first half with goals by seniors Nola Coyle (3), Catherine Bianchi (3), Madisen Karavas (2), and Sydney Pitcher to lead 9-4 at halftime. The first half offensive surge was powered by junior Clare Cullagh off the draw with an amazing seven straight controls in the circle.

The defense also played strong on the ball in the first half. Seniors Ava “Chags” Chagnon, Malika Gazzarapu, and Kiley Pollard were staunch. Juniors Liv Holovach and Rap Raposo played hard to the ball by limiting the Westies to four goals on only 10 shots. Junior goalie Emily Shea did the rest in the goal with a 60% save percentage.

The offensive onslaught continued in the second half with Coyle (3), Bianchi (4) , Karavas, and Pitcher all adding to their totals. It was a constant surge by the returning seniors up front, assisted by classmates Grace Martin and Snooty Salzano in the attack. Juniors Chloe Vogel, Molly Martin, Ava Prefontaine, and Ellie Perotti, who netted a great goal off the ride, were key contributors up front. Cullagh’s dominance off the draw continued with seven more draw controls in the half.

The defense continued to choke off the Blue Devils in the second half, with juniors Emma Kwieraga and Senny Saribasak applying pressure at the 12 meter line. Freshman goalie Giana Marino made her varsity debut in the second half, holding the lead for the Nighthawks while stopping 50% of the shots against her. The final score was 18-8.
