Baseball Earns Two Wins in Hard-Fought Week

H-K baseball traveled to Valley Regional/Westbrook on April 8 and won 2-1. Todd Butler scattered five hits while striking out six batters, and Blake Kamoen recorded the save when he pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Luke Mauri crushed a double and scored on Butler’s single to tie the score in the sixth inning. The Cougars pushed across the winning run in the seventh inning, when Matt Shea singled and eventually scored on a passed ball, a balk, and an error.

On April 10, the team hit the road to East Hampton and earned an 8-2 victory. Evan Aubin pitched four innings of shutout relief, and Kamoen got the win on the mound, pitching a scoreless seventh and eighth inning. Joey Salafia broke the game open with a three-run double in the eighth.

The team then hosted North Branford on April 13 and fell 3-1. Caleb Allen pitching six innings, striking out 10 batters and allowing only two hits. Shea had two hits, and Butler drove in the only Cougars run in the seventh inning.
