Apple Pi Robotics Headed for World Championships
The Apple Pi Robotics team spent the last week at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics New England District Championship held at the Big E in Springfield, MA. It was three days of fast paced, intense robot action, competing with and against other top teams from New England.
Guilford’s Apple Pi Robotics team emerged from the event qualifying to compete in the FIRST Robotics World Championship, being held from Wednesday, April 17 to Saturday, April 20 in Houston, Texas. The team will be competing with other top teams from around the world.
Apple Pi Robotics Team is a 4-H team based in Guilford and consists of high school students from the local shoreline area. The students have been strategizing , designing, building, programming, and tweaking their robot since the game was released in January, resulting in a top notch machine of World Class caliber.
Each year, FIRST Robotics releases a completely new, theme based game, and teams are challenged to build a robot to play that game. Working together with two other teams, alliances must perform specific tasks and challenges to earn points. The program stresses a culture of Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition, where teams help each other out, both opponents and alliance partners. This coopertition raises the bar in the level of play for everyone. It is a fierce competition, and everyone wants to win, but these teams want to beat their opponents while both teams are playing at their best.
Apple Pi Robotics is extremely excited to qualify for the World Championship and thanks all their sponsors that have helped them bring this amazing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program to the shoreline area.
