03/10/2024 09:38 PMTwenty swimmers from the Valley Shore YMCA Marlins have earned spots to compete in the New England Swim Championships (NEY) happening from March 15 to 18 at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA. The swimmers who qualified include:
Emily Albright (Ivoryton), Alexander Kim (Old Saybrook), Grace McDonald (New London), Vicky Van Berkel (Ivoryton), Ella Beermunder (Clinton), Lucca Giordano (Essex), Gus Van Berkel (Ivoryton), Lillian Miller (Madison), Claire Johnson (Deep River), Caroline Ferretti (Deep River), Emma Scherber (Chester), Kayla Franklin (Old Saybrook), Caroline Lowry (Old Saybrook), Anna Orphanides (Groton), Kate Van Berkel (Ivoryton), Charlee Firth (Old Lyme), Peyton Maynard (Niantic), Alexa Citarella (Old Saybrook), Ella Morse (Old Saybrook), and Grace Valle (Old Saybrook). The Marlins team will compete against other talented swimmers from across New England.
Additionally, six Marlins swimmers secured spots in two other important swim championships in Connecticut. Giordano, Orphanides, and Miller qualified for the CT Senior Championship, taking place from March 8 to 10 at Wesleyan University in Middletown. McDonald, Van Berkel, and Scherber also earned spots in the CT Age Group Championship, scheduled from March 14 to 18 at Wesleyan University in Middletown. Orphanides will also compete in the 2024 Speedo Sectionals from March 21 to 24 at Brown University in Providence, RI.

Evaluations for the upcoming summer's long course season will be conducted on Wednesday, April 17, at 5:30 p.m. at the YMCA on 201 Spencer Plain Road, Westbrook. Evaluations are for individuals aged 6 to 18, regardless of ability level.
