Boys’ Basketball, Girls’ Ice Hockey Fall in State Tournament
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op team had a bye in the first round of the SCC Tournament as the No. 2 seed. In the semifinals on Feb. 21, the team faced No. 3 Hamden Co-op and fell 4-1.
The team then entered the state tournament as the No. 8 seed, where they fell 7-5 vs. No. 9 Hamden Co-op in the first round on Feb. 26.
Boys’ Basketball
The Hand boys’ basketball team entered the SCC Tournament as the No. 5 seed. In the first round on Feb. 22, the team hosted No. 12 Sheehan and won 67-28.
In the quarterfinals on Feb. 24, Hand faced No. 4 Wilbur Cross and won 57-53. Kyle Hoffman and Elijah-Avery Turner led the way, with 13 points each. Thomas McCullough and Sam Markovitz added nine points each.
Hand played in the semifinals on Feb. 26 vs. top-seeded Notre Dame-West Haven and fell 58-39. Avery-Turner recorded 18 points in the loss.
The team then entered the Division II State Tournament as the No. 10 seed. In the first round on March 4, the team hosted No. 23 Naugatuck and won 69-59. Hoffman led the way with 23 points, followed by Avery-Turner with 17.
In the second round on March 6, the team traveled to No. 7 Conard and lost 64-56. Avery-Turner scored 20 points to lead the Tigers.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
Hand boys’ ice hockey hosted JBWA in its Senior Night game on Feb. 24 and recorded a 2-0 win. Will McGuire earned his first career shutout in net.
The Tigers then closed out the season in a tough battle at North Branford on Feb. 26, where they fell 2-1.
