Girls’ Basketball

In the first round of the SCC Tournament on Feb. 15, Branford girls’ basketball fell to Sheehan by a score of 66-31.

The team then entered the Class MM State Tournament as the No. 26 seed, where the Hornets fell by a score of 72-32 vs. No. 7 Rocky Hill in the first round on Feb. 27.

Boys’ Indoor Track

On March 2, Enaji Muhammad from the Branford boys’ indoor track team finished second out of 32 qualifiers at the New England Championship. His jump of 6'7 also broke the school record, which was set by Charles Volpe in 1993. For his efforts, he earned All-New England status.

Enaji will be competing at the New Balance Nationals in Boston on Friday, March 8.

“Enaji had been looking forward to this meet the entire season,” said Head Coach Rich Biondi. “He had a tremendous week of practice and entered the competition with confidence. As the bar was going up, and other athletes were being eliminated, Enaji performed at a higher level, and it was clearly evident that he was enjoying the moment. He ended up breaking his personal best by four inches. That type of improvement at an elite meet rarely happens. However, Enaji is an elite athlete and a young man with a bright future. It was a special night for Enaji, myself, and his parents.”
