Girls’ Basketball Falls in State Tournament, Boys’ Ice Hockey Grabs a Win

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The East Haven Co-op boys’ ice hockey team hosted Hamden on Feb. 26 and won 6-2. The Yellowjackets scored four goals in the first period. John D’Albero opened it up, with an unassisted score. Lorenzo Defilio then scored two goals, with the first one assisted by Robert Testa and Landon Cantele, and the second one assisted by Testa. Mike Savo then added a goal of his own, with Cantele on the assist.

In the second period, Preston Cantele found the net, with Nick Perillo on the assist. Landon Cantele then knocked in a Power Play goal, and it was assisted by Mike Fritz. Fritz manned the net for the Yellowjackets, allowing two goals on 20 saves.

Girls’ Basketball

The East Haven girls’ basketball team hosted Jonathan Law in the first round of the SCC Tournament on Feb. 15, earning a 46-38 win.

In the quarterfinals on Feb. 17, the Yellowjackets traveled to No. 1 seed Hamden and lost 66-18. Juliana Iovino led the way for East Haven, with seven points.

The team opened up the Class MM State Tournament as the No. 12 seed, defeating No, 21 Nonnewaug in the first round on Feb. 27 by a score of 63-49.

In the second round on March 1, the Yellowjackets faced No. 5 Sheehan and fell 68-42.
