Indoor Track Teams Represent Well at State Open
Boys’ Indoor Track
Enaji Muhammad represented the Branford boys’ indoor track team at the State Open Championship on Feb. 17. He placed second out of 18 state finalists in the high jump, and qualified to compete in the New England Championship in Boston on Saturday, March 2.
“Enaji has had a remarkable season. He has earned All-Conference, All-State class and All-State honors,” said Head Coach Rich Biondi. “Leading up to the State Open, Enaji worked hard and displayed a sense of confidence. Physically and mentally, he has grown as a young man and as an athlete. Since the preseason, Enaji stated his desire to compete well at the regional and national meets. That is exactly what lies ahead. Enaji is an example of what can be achieved with hard work and confidence, and how important a role athletics plays in the development of high school student-athletes.”
Girls’ Indoor Track
Several athletes from the Branford girls’ indoor track team competed at the State Open Championship on Feb. 17. Avery Clouse placed 12th in the high jump (4’10”). Joelle Budz placed 16th in the 55 meters (7.55). The 4x400 relay team, comprised of Budz, Maddie Aguilar, Djamilla Toukour, and Glorianna Buckley, placed 14th with a team time of 4:16.68.
“This was great to have the meet end with our 4x4 running their best time of the season, going in 18th and finishing 14th,” said Head Coach Kevin Connell. “I am proud of this group and all of our State Open qualifiers. Avery has been amazingly consistent in the high jump from week to week. Joelle has established herself as one of the top sprinters in the state.”
