Girls’ Indoor Track Shows Up Big at State Championship Meet
Girls’ Indoor Track
The Guilford girls’ indoor track team had eight athletes qualify this winter for the Class M State Championship, which was held on Feb. 10 in New Haven. Olivia Jackson qualified as a freshman, and finished very strong in the 3200 championship race. Paige Ponzio and Ciara Davenport both qualified as sophomores.
In the high jump, captain Lily Sullivan jumped 4’8” and came in 15th in the state. In the 1000 meters, captain Clara Gahm placed first, running a time of 3:05, and Davenport came in 12th, with a time of 3:25. Junior Daniella Selig placed 14th in the 600, finishing in a time of 1:52.
Gahm ran the 1600 and placed second (5:20), and Ponzio and Ana Sadlon both ran a 5:50, coming in 11th and 12th, respectively. Juliana Montgomery ran a personal best time in the 300 meters (46.992) and Selig recorded a time of 48.21 in that event. In the 3200, Gahm came in fourth (12:09), while Jackson finished in seventh (12:44).
The Guilford girls placed 10th overall at the meet.
