Girls’ Ice Hockey Wins Twice, Fencing Battles in Two Matches
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Amity/Cheshire/North Haven girls’ ice hockey team hosted Daniel Hand Co-op on Feb. 7 and lost 5-1. Maybelle Caron scored the lone goal for the Blades, and it was assisted by Cadence Fasano. Ivy Massicotte recorded 23 saves in net.
The Blades traveled to Masuk Co-op on Feb. 9 and won 3-0. Lucy Dickenson scored the first goal, and it was assisted by Sophia Jimenez and Maura Lebreck. Emelia Brandi knocked in another score, assisted by Lebreck and Caron, and Caron added the third score, assisted by Gabriella Munoz. Kylie Schwab recorded 28 saves in goal.
On Feb. 10, Amity/Cheshire/North Haven ended the week by hosting Wilton/Norwalk/McMahon. The team won the game 4-2. Dickenson got the Blades on the board, with an assist from Jimenez and Fasano. Olivia Beach also knocked in a goal, assisted by Caron. In the third period, Jimenez scored (assisted by Fasano and Dickenson), and Caron added the finishing tough (assisted by Brandi). Massicotte manned the net and recorded 26 saves.
Fencing
The North Haven fencing team started the week with a tough matchup against Hand, with the boys falling 9-18 and the girls losing 11-15. The girls’ match was especially close, with all three squads losing narrow 5-4 victories. Men’s foil defeated Hand 7-2, with Ben Pollio going 3-0. Ayla Sivri and Anita Sajan paced the girls’ team, by each going 3-0 against Hand. Rachel Adams also earned her 50th varsity win.
Both the men and women fared better against Cheshire, with the women dominating the epee (9-0) and sabre (8-1) matches, and foil earning a hard-fought 5-4 victory. Sajan, Nina Novicki, Anna Hansard, Angela Lin, Sivri, and Fiona Gao all went undefeated for the girl’s team, with Sajan earning her 50th varsity win. Sajan has also been undefeated over the past several weeks, going 18-0 against Hand (twice), Simsbury, Cheshire (twice) and Morgan.
Adams and Sajan are both tied with 52 career victories for the Nighthawks, while Sivri is the current active wins leader, with 80 career varsity wins.
Scholar Athletes
The SCC Conference recently announced its Scholar Athletes for the Fall 2023 season. Chandler Morris (volleyball) and Nico Boyle (cross country) earned the honor for North Haven.
