Girls’ Basketball
On Jan. 10, the Old Saybrook girls’ basketball team traveled to Morgan and put forth their worst performance of the season, losing 63-14. According to Head Coach Steve Woods, the Rams had no gas in their tank and never were in the game after the midway point of the first quarter.
“We couldn't do anything right, and they couldn't do anything wrong,” Woods said. “That can happen when you play a well-coached and talented team.”
The Rams then traveled to East Hampton on Jan. 11 to take on the undisputed best team in the Shoreline Conference. Despite coming up short by a score of 47-32, Old Saybrook put up its best performance of the winter so far. Standouts for the Rams included a stifling defense, as well as the long range shooting of Nora Kulmann and Breleigh Cooke, scoring and rebounding by Kylie Lake, and excellent all-around floor play from Alex Ling, Sanai Baker, Sam Hanover, and Ellie Pennington. Kulmann and Cooke led the Rams with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
“It was an incredible and great response by our kids after the nightmare the day before,” Woods said.
Boys’ Basketball
The Old Saybrook boys’ basketball team traveled to Haddam-Killingworth on Jan. 19 and lost 61-50. Point scorers for the Rams included Brendan Cassella (11 points), Noah Hubbard (eight points), Brayden Cody (five points), Jake Speed (two points), Wes Percival (22 points), and Aiden D’Anna (two points).
