The Amity/Cheshire/North Haven Blades traveled to Trumbull/St. Joseph on Jan. 8, taking a 4-1 loss. The lone goal for the team was scored in the third period by Emelia Brandi, and it was assisted by Maybelle Caron. Ivy Massicotte manned the net for the Blades, and recorded 30 saves.
Two days later, the team hit the road to face the Daniel Hand Co-op and fell 6-2. Caron scored the first goal for the Blades, and it was assisted by Brandi and Maura LeBreck. Olivia Beach added a score of her own, assisted by Reese Rothfuss. Kylie Schwab recorded 27 saves in net.
The Blades rounded out the week at home on Jan. 13, facing the Suffield Co-op and falling 2-1. Lucy Dickenson scored the goal for the team, and it was assisted by Brandi and Cadence Fasano. Schwab recorded 39 saves in net.
Wrestling
On Jan. 10, the North Haven wrestling team traveled to Morgan and grabbed a commanding 63-15 win. Several wrestlers grabbed wins on the day, including Ashton Manacchio at 113 pounds (2-0 decision), Mason Mansur at 126 pounds (by fall), and David Kobuta at 138 pounds (by fall). Elijah Ellis earned a victory by fall at 175 pounds, Tyler Dimauro won by fall at 215 pounds, and Joseph Carbone Jr. won by fall at 285 pounds.
The team traveled to compete in the Ellis Tech Duals on Jan. 13, where they finished 3-1 and took third place out of eight teams. The only loss came in a 42-32 contest vs. Middletown. The Nighthawks had many wrestlers step into the varsity lineup and contribute to the day's success. Hayden Minns (132 pounds), Jace Iamunno (150 pounds), and DiMauro (190 pounds) all won all four of their matches for the day. DiMauro had three pins, as well, while both Minns and Iamunno had two pins.
Winning two matches on the day for North Haven were Ellis (175 pounds), Mike Moran (165 pounds), Manacchio (113 pounds), Christian DeMaio (190 pounds), and Carbone (285 pounds).
Winning one match for the Nighthawks at the Ellis Tech Duals included Auriana Camano (106 pounds), Mansur (126 pounds), Ty Ellis (138 pounds), Matt Kauhl (157 pounds), Yaseen Mahmoud (165 pounds), Johnny Williston (175 pounds), and Nate Ruggiero (190 pounds).
The North Haven wrestling team surpassed last year's win total of nine with the weekend performance, and now sits at 12 wins and nine losses overall for the season.
Fencing
North Haven fencing hosted its annual Junior Varsity Tournament on Jan. 13, with several fencers earning honors. Angela Lin earned gold in women’s sabre, and Ben Pollio took gold in men’s foil. Silver medals went to Emily Cerasoli in women’s foil, and Owen Arenberg in men’s foil. Top 8 finishers included Gavin Brawn (fifth place in men’s foil), Matt Kompare (fifth place in men’s epee), Chelsea Chin-Mook (fifth place in women’s sabre), and Zayna Saidi (seventh place in women’s foil).
