Boys’ Ice Hockey Wins Two More, Boys’ Basketball Splits the Week
Boys’ Basketball
Valley boys’ basketball hosted Coginchaug on Jan. 10 and walked away with a 64-51 win. Noah Dolinsky scored 20 points to lead the Warriors, and teammate Conor Quinn added 16 points. Max Nickel was also in double digits, with 11 points. Other point scorers for Valley included Dylan Brown (three points), Jack Driscoll (four points), Rex Grabowski (two points), Thomas Troy (seven points) and Tavis Filacchione (two points). In the win, Quinn also recorded seven steals and seven assists, while Nickel added five rebounds and five steals. Olivia Cunningham contributed three assists and three rebounds.
The team then traveled to Portland the next day and took a 60-54 loss.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
On Jan. 10, the East Haven Co-op boys’ ice hockey team traveled to West Haven Co-op and recorded a 3-2 win. John D’Albero scored two of the three goals for the Yellowjackets, and his first score was assisted by Griffin McGlinchey. His second goal, which was scored late in the first period, was assisted by Lorenzo Defilio and McGlinchey. Mike Savo scored the game-winning goal for East Haven in the third period, assisted by Ryan Bunnell. Mike Fritz manned the net in the victory, allowing two goals on 22 saves.
The Yellowjackets traveled to the Eastern CT Eagles on Jan. 13 and won 8-3. Defilio got the scoring started in the first period, assisted by Preston Cantele and Carter McGlinchey. Griffin McGlinchey then added a score later in the period, assisted by Defilio and D’Albero.
In period two, Savo found the net on an assist from Bunnell, and D’Albero added to the scoring too, with the assist being credited to Defilio. East Haven went off for four goals in the third period. These were scored by D’Albero on a Power Play (assisted by Griffin McGlinchey), Landon Cantele (unassisted), Shane Ruggiero (assisted by Josh Salvati), and Defilio (assisted by Griffin McGlinchey). Fritz allowed three goals in net, on 11 saves.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op team hosted Amity/Cheshire/North Haven on Jan. 10 and won 6-2. In the first period, the Tigers scored two goals. Jaimey DiNapoli knocked one in, assisted by Taylor Manchanda, and Faith Minickene scored, on an assist from Kendall Dobratz.
Hand then added three goals in the second period. The first one was knocked in by Manchanda (assisted by DiNapoli and Cheyenne Wilson), and Dobratz (assisted by Raegan Wyrebek-Brasky and Minickene). Minickene scored an unassisted goal to round out the frame. DiNapoli found the net again in the third period, assisted by Minickene and Wilson. Chloe Monahan manned the net for the Tigers, recording 16 saves.
